Benefits

  1. Sound research is essential to address the impacts of climate change and will lead to effective solutions.
  2. IEESC has the expertise to better understand and develop responses to environment and energy issues affecting our communities. Our experts are engineers, social scientists, biologists, chemists, geologists, geographers, computer scientists and educators from universities, not-for-profits, and the public and private sectors.
  3. Decisions governments and industry make about energy and environment issues are complex. IEESC has designed software that eases the process in analyzing energy and environment issues. The software factors in the problems involved in a decision, making it possible to come up with better, cost-effective answers and take measures to reduce risks.
  4. The Institute’s climate models help the public and governments to be better informed on planning for weather and environment related risks and events, such as floods, droughts and storms.
  5. IEESC is developing new technologies to help researchers study the effect of weather changes on our natural resources. This work will inform how governments and industry in Canada make decisions about resource development, energy security, water and land use, agriculture, policy priorities, governance and environmental limitations.
  6. IEESC works with communities to identify key vulnerabilities in response to weather events like hotter summers, high winds and less water, and take measures to solve these problems.
