IEESC attends the Best-in-Science Symposium hosted by Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change

December 2, 2014

During November 27-28, 2014, Dr. Gordon Huang and Mr. Xiuquan Wang attended the 3rd annual Best-in-Science (BIS) Symposium hosted by Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC). The Best-in-Science Symposium in this year focuses on climate change modeling and impact assessment in the context of Ontario. Dr. Huang gave an invited presentation entitled "High Resolution Probabilistic Climate Projections over Ontario through UK PRECIS Model and SCADS Technique", which summarizes IEESC's latest research achievements in modeling the regional climate over Ontario. Mr. Wang exhibited two posters in the BIS Symposium, entitled "Regional Climate Modeling over Ontario for Impact Assessment" and "Ontario Climate Change Data Portal", and provided on-site presentation of the Ontario Climate Change Data Portal (CCDP) as developed by IEESC. Besides, they exchanged their research experiences in regional climate modeling with more than 100 researchers and scientists from Ontario's Universities (e.g., University of Toronto, York University, University of Gulph, Queen's University, Trent University, etc.), provincial and municipal agencies, non-government agencies, and private sectors. In fact, the high-resolution climate projections over Ontario have already been used by many of them to help assess the impacts of climatic changes on ecosystems, energy systems, human health, and municipal engineering practices.

Ontario Climate Change Data Portal (CCDP) is developed by IEESC to ensure technical or non-technical end-users have easy and intuitive access to the refined Ontario-focused high-resolution regional climate data. As of November 25, 2014, Ontario CCDP has received ~15,000 downloading requests from more than 60 registered users. More details about Ontario CCDP can be found at: http://ontarioccdp.ca.
